The Family of Florence Lee formerly Asbery

I am grateful to Roy Danson who provided much of the following information.

She was born 19 February 1876 at Kimberworth Road, Rotherham, a daughter of John Asbery and Hannah Elizabeth formerly Vollans. She had auburn hair, which none of her children or grandchildren inherited.

In the 1881 census of 20 Kimberworth Road, Florence was living with her family, aged 5, and born in Masbrough.

In the 1891 census of 38 Kimberworth Road, Masbrough, Rotherham, Florence was living with her family, aged 15 and born at Kimberworth.

She married Frank William Lee (born 24 January 18718 at Worcester), on 21 September 1899 [at Kimberworth? registered Rotherham district], a railway goods guard.

In the 1901 census of Alma Street, Fairfield, Buxton, she was aged 25, with her husband Frank W. Lee, aged 30, a railway guard, born Strentham, Worcs and their daughter Kathleen E. aged 9 months, born at Fairfield.

Florence died 28 March 1964 and is buried at Buxton.

Florence and Frank's children were:

  1. Kathleen Emily, born 2 June 1900 at Stonecliffe Terrace, Buxton. She married Arthur Jones and lived at 32 Ronald Street, Stanley, Liverpool 13 (1965). There is a likely death entry in the GRO indexes for a Kathleen Emily Jones in the Liverpool district in the month of April 1995.
  2. Constance Annie, born 25 June 1901. She married George Thomas.
  3. Hilda Mary, born 23 March 1903.
  4. Doris Lilian, born 16 March 1906 at Alma Street, Buxton. She married George Danson, (born 1899 at Salford, and was a steelworks charge hand at Irlam, Lancs) at Buxton 19 November 1932. She died in the High Peak district in the month of September 1998.
  5. Frank Asbery, born 21 August 1907 at Kings Road, Buxton. He married Ann Bradbury.
  6. Florence Elizabeth, born 10 August 1908. She married Horace Portas, who died as a young man.

  9. Gertrude Alice
  10. A daughter
  11. Sidney, born 27 July 1915. He died in an air raid at Birkenhead during military service, 12 March 1941.
  12. Elsie, who died in infancy.
